Welcome to Our Church

Loving God & Loving Others

Brief History

We Believe in God’s Word and His Spirit

Calvary Baptist Church has come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1964 to the glory of God and through the efforts of missionaries from the United States of America south Baptist convention.
The management of the church was later handed over to the local congregation and the search for a senior pastor ended with the appointment of Rev. Alfred Stevenson. The appointment of Rev. Steven saw the beginnings of the rapid expansion and recognition of the church in Ghana and abroad. Under the leadership of Alfred Stevenson the church reviewed its corporate worship programmes, evangelism and incorporated other activities that attracted more people; among them were new converts and Christians from other denominations who made the church their “home” or preferred place or worship.
The revival, good work and rapid expansion started by Rev. Stevenson was firmly upheld by the council of ministers who took over from where he left off at the end of his appointment. Rev. Fred Deebge, who came in as the senior pastor after him also held on to this good work together with his team of ministers. The intensity of their devotion to revival and expansion gave it a precise form and structure.
Under the leadership of Rev. Fred Deegbe, the number of branches increased. Calvary Family members were meeting in Akoto lante , Adenta, Nsawan, Teshie, Awoshie, and Nungua on Sunday mornings for service. However, as children grow and leave home, some of these churches grew, became established and were sent off to be on their own.

Over the years, there have been significant changes in the timing and number of services held at the Adabraka Campus. As the congregation grew and the needs of members became more diverse, additional services were introduced. Today, the Adabraka Campus holds Ga and Ewe Service, Akan Service, International Service, Teens Service, and Youth Service, each held at different times every Sunday to accommodate the growing congregation.

As the church continued to grow, the activities of its auxiliaries also expanded, leading to the establishment of new ministries, including the Golden Agers Ministry and the Hospitality Ministry, among others. These developments were introduced to respond to the evolving needs of the church and its members, ensuring that people at different stages of life and with different needs could find a place to belong, serve, and grow.

Over the years, the church has also embarked on several special projects. While some of these projects have been completed, others are still ongoing. These include the construction of buildings for the Oyibi and Bortianor Campuses, the acquisition of land for the Amasaman and Community 25 Campuses, and the redevelopment and improvement of existing facilities.

These initiatives are being pursued under the Calvary Development Fund (CDF), a strategic initiative established to support the continued growth and development of the church. The initiative has an annual fundraising target of GHS 5 million, with funds directed towards infrastructure development, expansion, and the welfare of members.

As the church continued to grow and mature, some of its institutions and ministries also developed to the point of becoming autonomous. One notable example is the Calvary Baptist Credit Union, which has grown beyond its original structure within the church and now operates as an independent institution.

Calvary Baptist Church has therefore entered a new era in its history. Having helped establish branches that have since developed into independent churches under the Ghana Baptist Convention, the church has transitioned into a new administrative structure. Today, Calvary Baptist Church operates as one united church with six campuses: Adabraka, Shiashie, Bortianor, Amasaman, Oyibi, and Community 25.

From a single congregation to a growing church family with multiple campuses, ministries, services, institutions, and ongoing development projects, the journey of Calvary Baptist Church is a testimony to God’s faithfulness.

This is how far the Lord has brought us.

And the journey continues…

Still Pressing On to Victory in Jesus.
